I guess that many of you are curious how the event impacted the participants. Well here are a couple of insights that Bogdan, Catalin and Ovidiu – the leaders of the three teams – shared after Launch48.

About the Mentors:

1. How useful did you find the feedback of the mentors?

2. What are some ingredients that would have made it perfect?

Bogdan Bocse, Decily:

• a better selection of the mentors. (Some mentors really had an offline mentality and didn’t get the project);
• all mentors could have been given a short-description of the projects when they came in;
• teams should have been given in advance choice of (let’s say) 5 mentors they wanted feedback from, because otherwise the advice became confusing

Catalin Zamfir, OpenMyCV:

• it would’ve been perfect if they could’ve already known what our ideas was all about, as we’ve spent 5 minutes witch each one, just to repeat it

Ovidiu Negrean, Sevinde:

• can’t see any

About the Board:

1. How useful did you find the feedback of the board?

2. What are some ingredients that would have made it perfect?

• the board had a solid, consistent point of view – they helped significantly more than the mentors.

• a bit more scrutiny I guess

• we should have had more short meetings with the board

About the Team:

1. How well did you think that your team contributed towards the execution of your idea?

2. What are some ingredients that would have made it perfect?

Bogdan Bocse, Decily:

• there was no feedback loop on who was a part of a team. The initiators should have been given a way to pick at first in a round-robin manner / there could have been a firing protocol after each board meeting.
• at Decily we lacked some development skills that would have made our jobs so much easier (FLEX, for instance). There could have been a hiring protocol after the second board meeting.
• the teams could have been give a prize/token/symbols to compete for at each board meeting. It could have been symbolic (like the golden monkey of online success or something) just for motivation

Catalin Zamfir, OpenMyCV

• well, our project was done in Python and there are few Python developers that can carry the project forward. After the event we’re now starting at re-writing it in PHP and we’re looking forward for a relaunch. If it’ve been done already in PHP that would’ve been perfect

Ovidiu Negrean, Sevinde:

• more focus
• more commitment
• better collaboration

About the Event:

• the teams could have been given access to some sort of mutually exclusive options – like hiring a person, using a limited budget (200 euro), having their idea advertised for on a major website

• a bigger audience

Ovidiu Negrean, Sevinde:

• -knowing the team would have helped making a better product, but would have taken most of the learning and the fun

3. To whom would you recommend the event?

Bogdan Bocse, Decily:

• to anyone who considers starting up. To anyone who considers he has good management skills. To anyone who considers him/herself a hardcore developer.

Catalin Zamfir, OpenMyCV:

• I’d recommend it to anybody that has an idea of a start-up

Ovidiu Negrean, Sevinde:

• to everybody who wants to be involved in online projects

4. Are you considering to develop your product further? Why?

Bogdan Bocse, Decily:

• yeah, sure. It doesn’t take up much effort, I genuinely believe it can be useful for the average social network consumer.

Catalin Zamfir, OpenMyCV:

• yes. We’re considering to go further. Why: cause the feedback was excellent, from a lot of people, mentors, people invited at Netcamp, guys in the blogosphere and much more.

Ovidiu Negrean, Sevinde:

• yes. Las night I put online the first public version of the project. I want to continue it, because it is a new approach, that I believe in.

5. Name a couple of lessons that you’re taking home from this event

Bogdan Bocse, Decily:

• it is a true challenge to establish yourself as the leader of a team.
• democracy isn’t always the best form of management
• assumption is the mother of all failures

Catalin Zamfir, OpenMyCV:

• let the team auto-organize. If they don’t, help’em tie-up the loose ends
• an ideea without a proper, proven business plan is no idea.
• 48 hours for a business launch: it’s adrenaline baby!

Ovidiu Negrean, Sevinde:

• have a clear vision of the product and focus on the core
• KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid
• if someone is a mentor doesn’t necessarily mean they will give you the best advice for your product. You know your product best, so trust your instincts.

1. Fantastic venue and event management – the team at Eventsys know their stuff!  Cristi, Oana, and Georgiana have made our stay in Romania a great experience and we thank them very much for their effort and interest in Launch48.  Without their effort and knowledge, this event would not have been anywhere near as successful.
2. The Launch48 attendees – right from the beginning of the event we were made to feel welcome.  We didn’t speak the language, we knew little about Romania, but everyone has gone out of their way to make us feel comfortable and speak English when near us which is truly appreciated.
3. The entrepreneurial spirit – Romania has, in the last couple of years, drastically improved its IT entrepreneur skills.  This is primarily down to the huge efforts of the Romanian people to create events that foster and drive entrepreneurialism within Romania.  From what I have seen on this trip, this has worked well and the IT and web scene is booming.  I can’t wait to see what Romanian companies achieve, and for this reason I look forward to future Launch48 events in Romania.

Good luck Launch48 teams!  I wish you the best of luck with the remainder of your Launch48 event on Tuesday, and your presentations on Wednesday at Netcamp.  Hopefully they will be recorded and posted online, because I think some of the ideas are truly inspiring and can grow to become strong businesses, and it would be great to show the rest of the world what Romania has been able to create at is first Launch48 event.

From now on we have asked Octav and the Eventsys team to take over the role of blogging and publicising the event online.  Octav has been tirelessly helping Dan and I translate posts into Romanian, so I have no doubt he will do an excellent job.

Romanian:

Eu (Ian Broom) si Dan Moon ne-am simtit grozav la Launch48 Romania. Poate va intrebati, de ce a fost atat de bine. Iata cateva motive:

1. O locatie fantastica si un management al evenimentului grozav. Echipa Evensys este foarte abila! Cristi, Oana si Georgiana ne-au transformat sederea in Romania intr-o experienta grozava si le multumim foarte mult pentru efortul si interesul acordat evenimentului Launch48. Fara efortul si cunostintele lor, acest eveniment nici nu s-ar fi apropiat macar de succes.

2. Participantii Launch48: chiar de la inceputul evenimentului ne-am simtit bine veniti. Nu vorbeam limba lor, stiam putin despre Romania, dar toti ne-au facut sa ne simtim confortabil si au vorbit limba engleza atat timp cat au fost in jurul nostru – ceea ce este de apreciat.

3. Spiritul antreprenorial – in ultimii ani, Romania si-a imbunatatit drastic abilitatile de antreprenoriat in IT. Aceasta se datoreaza eforturilor mari ale romanilor pentru a crea evenimente care dezvolta motivatia pentru antreprenoriat in Romania. Din ceea ce am vazut, in timpul acestei calatorii, aceste eforturi sunt benefice iar zona de IT este in crestere. Sunt nerabdator sa vad ce vor realiza companiile romanesti si din acest motiv astept cu nerabdare urmatoarele evenimente Launch48 in Romania.

Uram succes tuturor echipelor Launch48 atat pentru marti cat si pentru miercuri cand vor prezenta la Netcamp. Speram ca prezentarile lor vor fi inregistrare si impartasite online, pentru ca ideile sunt inspirante si pot creste in afaceri puternice. Ar fi grozav ca restul lumii sa stie ce Romania a fost capabila sa creeze la primul eveniment Launch48.

De acum incolo i-am rugat pe Octav si echipa Evensys sa continue sa impartaseasca prin intermediul blogului ce se intampla la eveniment. Octav a lucrat neobosit pentru a-l ajuta pe Dan sa traduca articolele in limba Romana, deci nu am nici o indoiala ca va face o treaba grozava.

This is how we tackled the challenge of building a web app in 48 hours at the Launch48 event. It’s an event which reunites significant people from areas such as Business, Marketing, Tech, PR, etc. 11 minds, many ideas, one solution. We divided ourselves in teams that tackle problems such as: concept, design, programming, marketing and revenue so that we can finish in time. It’s a different area. Slowly, everything takes shape. Imagineaza-ti: iti cauti de mult o masina, esti asaltat de informatii, dar simti ca niciuna nu ti se potriveste cu adevarat. Intr-o zi, mergand grabit spre birou, observi la semafor o masina care TE-AR TENTA. Incepi deja sa-ti faci griji ca nu vei reusi nici de data asta sa memorezi anuntul, insa pana sa te dezmeticesti bine, masina a si plecat. Suna cunoscut?

Exact la tine ne-am gandit atunci cand am creat Sevinde.ro – Un site ce face totul mai simplu: fara memorarea vreunui numar de telefon, fara cont de acces,fara detalii inutile.Fiecare oferta are asociata un cod unic. Intrii, scrii codul si aflii tot ce vrei sa stii. E un super deal atat pentru cei ce vor cumpere, dar si pentru cei ce vor sa vanda.

Si pentru ca tu contezi pentru noi, am ales sa iti protejam identitatea: tu selectezi ce vrei sa ne impartasesti.
Asa am raspuns noi provocarii celor 48 de ore din cadrul Launch48, evenimentul ce reuneste, pentru prima data in Romania, nume importante din domenii precum Business, Marketing, Technology, PR, etc. 11 minti, nenumarate idei, o solutie. Ne-am impartit in echipe axate pe concept, design, programare, marketing si revenue, pentru a finaliza in timp util tot ceea ce ne-am propus. Un altfel de domeniu.

Incet incet, totul incepe sa capete forma. Asta e forma la care te-ai gandit si tu?

Tocmai am primit primul blog post de la echipa Decily.

Decily este un sistem pentru luarea deciziilor online, un loc in care reusim sa ne hotaram rapid, usor si cu “un sfarsit fericit”. Este locul in care putem avea o opinie si o putem impartasi fara sa ne certam. Este locul unde ne invitam prietenii pentru ca sa cheltuim mai putin timp pe planuri si sa castigam mai mult timp pentru vietile noastre. Pe scurt, ne vom intalni aici pentru a ne planui calatoriile, pentru a decide cadourile perfecte pentru zilele de nastere ale prietenilor nostrii sau pentru ca sa alegem un club in care sa iesim in seara asta. Oricine poate trimite o sugestie, iar ceilalti vor vota alegerile preferate. Majoritatea va decide!

Decily transforma deciziile invaluite de nehotarare intr-o experienta distractiva pentru prietenii tai de pe internet.
